Broken and Out of Tune

Lately I have noticed that my piano needed some attention. That is, it was a little bit out of tune. So last week when I was complaining to Sarah about that, she recommended that her mom should tune my piano. That was great news since I really didn't want to pay some expensive company to come and tune it. So last night I had a fabulous time playing on my piano. It was so in tune that to me it sounded out of tune because I was so used to it being for real out of tune. Did you catch all of that?!

Another interesting event of the day happened to my mom. While at work, she got locked in the elevator between the 5th and 6th floors. Of course there were two other people in there and you know how it is in elevators... no one talks to anyone else. After 45 minutes they were finally rescued and my mom went back to make sure her patients hadn't died or anything.;) During experiences like these a good sense of humor is the name of the game, so they sang "If you're happy and you know it...." and then they were ringing the emergency bell to "Jingle Bells". And all the while, the security man was trying to keep in contact with them to make sure the oxygen levels were sufficient. Life is so interesting.

So as for tuneless pianos and broken elevators, well the lesson is going to be stretched but whether you're just a little out of tune or completely broken, you need help both ways. Spiritually speaking, there are many times the Bible talks about a broken and contrite heart. That is when we are able to be worked on, when we know our true condition, broken and out of tune.

I got stuck in an elevator once with a few friends. We were going down from the 8th floor, and the elevator just kept going down, past the basement, until we were stuck basically halfway between the basement and the bottom of the shaft.

We tried pressing all kinds of buttons and finally resorted to leaning on the alarm button for long amounts of time. Between our alarm pushing episodes, we found there was no escape hatch, and we pried the inner doors open, which was no small task. Anyway, finally the mechanic came, who only spoke Czech, which didn't matter, because anyone could see what the problem was...

anyway, they finally got us out, and on our way out of the hotel, we asked the guy at the receptionist if the elevator got stuck a lot. He said yes, and as a matter of fact at the moment they were waiting for a mechanic to come and let some people out. We told him it was us, and he said, "Oh, it was you who pushed the alarm so much..."
